For the past 12 years, my work ethics have always been around working with kids and nurturing their minds.
Like every other champ out there, I had never thought of being a teacher while in secondary school.
As God made it be, the journey started in 2008.
I remember how fulfilling my work used to be working with kids. I do not doubt that there is more to with them.
That reminds me of two young boys who moved down to Lagos from Osun State years. One of them happened to be my student.
He couldn't understand a word in English. And this made his classmates bully him a lot.
However, I discovered how amazing he was with his numeracy skills. I leverage that to help him build some courage at first. He started learning multiplication table 13.
During our lesson activities, I asked questions that also relate well to this numeracy. I do this with your language and he will respond.
I began to take him, extra classes. I knew his colleagues do not have much to say to him other than abusing him.
So, I taught him just one simple response "...and you too".
When they call him names, he will reply, " and you too".
When they ask him to submit his note, he will still respond by saying "and you too".
His colleagues started thinking he understands better. But No! That's just what he could say.
After series of classes with this young boy, he began to read comprehension passages and answering some questions.
I admire him a lot for how fast he had improved.
He made me feel fulfilled.
But you know what!
He put in the work to be his best because he felt he had someone willing to help.
It's a win-win situation for us.
And it's also a beautiful result of the relationship I built with him.
...a beautiful result of the courage I had the privilege to inspire in him.
... a beautiful result of how patient I was to see him grow to be his best.
Ever since then, I have always found it amazing to keep helping children solve their literacy challenges to the best of my knowledge with their support as well.
Working with Teach For Nigeria today brings me closer to solving problems of this kind and more.
Working with kids who are showing up to learn gives me the energy to do more.
Working with this amazing vision of LACED Africa- Literacy for African Child Education and Development "A world where every child can harness their literacy potentials for personal success and global peace" is something
We will continue putting our best... "To ensure that every African child in low-income communities has access to the right learning resources through literacy development and promotion of literacy competencies.
Will you like to support us with resources to help more kids.
