I know you have it already in your Scheme of work/ work plan.
It's either revision or revision/ The Topic for the week.
Some had started with a test. I heard you say it's a welcome test!
If I may ask, have you considered rebuilding your relationship with your learners?
Do you know what your learners experienced during the few weeks' break?
Some lost their parents!
Some lost their friends!
Some had already forgotten the classroom vision you designed for them not to talk of the classroom culture.
Some went hustling to make ends meet.
While others might have enjoyed the period.
Holidays expose kids to several dangers and it's beyond what you can imagine. While others benefit from some opportunities.
I asked my learners to share their experiences with the class and most of them felt reluctant to share.
I ended up sharing a bit of mine before one of them dared to speak.
The first two days or even the first week of resumption is to get my students emotionally ready for learning before the psychological tasks and all.
How do I do this?
📝I share stories that reconnect their mindset to our classroom vision.
📝I share stories that relate to the possible experiences they might have during the holiday and the lessons that might come with them.
📝I share stories that will help them break free from the unhealthy habits that might hinder their personal life and academic growth.
📝Where is the place for counseling in our schools today when the first set of activities we focus on are more of "tests" and other academic work?
As teachers, do we even care about what our students are going through in their personal lives?
I think it is important for us to know that student outcomes are beyond academic success.
Best student in a subject but has zero in good character.
📝Where is the place for character development?
📝Where is the place for the Students Support Unit?
This may be a story for another day.
I hope that teachers reading this will take some time from their no-time to work on this if they haven't.
As teachers, choosing to live a purposeful life should be a conscious effort through our daily activities with our learners and work environment.
A healthy student-teacher relationship is key to students' learning outcomes and success.
